Turkish shipping company Akkon Lines, which operated the RMS Team, reported on 21 August that the container ship with 12 crew members came under a drone attack while en route to Novorossiysk in Russia.
Following the attack, a nearby vessel responded to the distress call and rescued 11 crew members. However, one crew member remains missing, and relevant authorities are searching for the missing seafarer.
After the evacuation, a fire broke out in the vessel's accommodation and engine room areas before spreading to the container stowage areas. The circumstances surrounding the attack and the extent of the damage remain under assessment. According to Akkron Linnes, the cargo aboard the vessel is considered to be a complete loss.
RMS Team is a 2004-built containership that measures 146.39 meters in length and 23 meters in width.
