The fire reportedly started in the engine room and then spread to the accommodation block, the bridge, and the superstructure.

Twenty crew members were rescued safely, while two were taken to hospital. One was released after treatment for smoke inhalation; the other remains under treatment.
The fire in the superstructure was extinguished by the evening of 30 September; however, smoke continued to rise from the interior of the vessel. The Maritime Safety Investigation Unit has launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and assess any damage to the superstructure.
