The Oman Maritime Security Centre reported that the tanker attacked off its coast was towed to a port facility in the sultanate, while the search for two missing crew members continues.
The entity detailed that the Panamanian-flagged vessel El Gaia was moved to port after a fire broke out in its engine room due to the impact, which occurred about 103 nautical miles (191 kilometers) northeast of the Musandam Governorate.
A Royal Navy of Oman vessel evacuated 23 crew members and provided them with the required medical attention, while the search for two sailors missing after the attack on Monday, September 14, continues, the agency added.
Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued a report on Tuesday, September 15, stating that a vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz at 20:40 GMT on Monday.
UKMTO reported no material damage or environmental impact and did not specify the identity of the vessel, so it is unclear whether the notice refers to the El Gaia incident or another vessel.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of External Affairs of India stated that 13 Indian crew members of El Gaia were rescued, while one remains missing after the vessel was attacked off the coast of Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz.
