Colombia reached a new milestone in its liquefied natural gas (LNG) market with the reception of the 200th cargo managed by Calamarí LNG. The shipment arrived at SPEC LNG's Caribbean Regasification Terminal, located in Cartagena.
The milestone was achieved with the arrival of the vessel Aristos I, registered under the flag of Malta and linked to Capital Gas Ship Management. The vessel's docking operation was assisted by three tugboats from SAAM Towage.
"Almost a decade ago, we began our journey as pioneers in LNG imports for Colombia. We celebrate the 200th cargo, a milestone that reflects our team's commitment to developing management that has contributed to strengthening the country's energy security," Calamarí LNG communicated.
"From Trinidad & Tobago, this cargo arrives to continue strengthening the reliability of gas supply in Colombia. With this operation, we have reached 12.8 million m3 of imported LNG, equivalent to 265 TBTU injected into the National Transportation System. This year, LNG imported by Calamarí LNG has represented about 30% of the total gas supply in the country," it added.
For its part, SPEC LNG stated that "we received the 200th LNG cargo at our regasification terminal in Cartagena. Behind this figure are 200 LNG operations that we have transformed into the energy that today illuminates and powers millions of homes and industries in Colombia."
"This milestone reaffirms our role as a key player in the country's energy security, and it is also a recognition of our human team that makes it possible for us to carry out each operation with excellence and safety. We remain committed to the energy that drives Colombia's development," it added.
Meanwhile, SAAM Towage stated that "we were part of a key milestone for LNG development in Colombia. SAAM Towage participated in Calamarí LNG's 200th LNG cargo, with this milestone, more than 12.8 million cubic meters of LNG have been imported since 2017. In this operation, we deployed specialized tugboats for gas terminals, equipped with Fire Fighting systems for emergency response."
"The assistance of this type of vessel demands the highest standards of the maritime industry and highlights the technical capacity and experience of SAAM Towage's crews and equipment in Colombia. We are very proud to have supported this maneuver that reaffirms the development of the LNG market in Colombia and its contribution to the country's energy security," it complemented.
It is worth mentioning that the cargoes are received in Cartagena through SPEC LNG's infrastructure, where the FSRU Höegh Grace, from Höegh Evi, operates, responsible for the storage and regasification of LNG before its incorporation into the Colombian natural gas transportation system.
