How can ports make the right choices in a time of sustainability, digitalisation and increasing complexity? The new Green Innovation Compass knowledge platform helps all stakeholders in the port ecosystem by providing independent and practical insights into innovative technologies and solutions.
The Green Innovation Compass has been developed as one of the key legacies of the European Horizon 2020-funded MAGPIE project (sMArt Green Ports as Integrated Efficient multimodal hubs). Port of Rotterdam is one of the partners. Within this project, ports, companies, knowledge institutions and governments collaborated on innovative solutions for the port of the future.
An important lesson from MAGPIE was that knowledge about port innovations is often available in a fragmented form. The Green Innovation Compass brings this knowledge together on one accessible platform. The information is based on research findings, demonstration projects and practical experiences from ports, companies and knowledge institutions from across Europe.
On the platform, you will find information on a variety of innovation themes, such as electrification, alternative fuels, automation, resilience and digitalisation. For each technology, the Green Innovation Compass provides insights into possible applications, preconditions for implementation, expected impact and key enablers.
The platform does not prescribe a fixed route. Instead, it supports ports in making well-considered choices that match their own situation, ambitions and stage of development. You can filter what matters to you: your priorities, your challenges, goals, ambitions and timeline.
The Green Innovation Compass is set up as a dynamic platform that continues to grow. Users are invited to share new knowledge, experiences and practical examples.
To ensure the long-term continuity of this knowledge platform, ALICE (Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe) will take on the role of legacy partner following the completion of the MAGPIE project.
