The Port of Guangzhou (China) announced the expansion of its low-voltage shore power supply equipment for large vessels in the area of berths 4 to 8 of the Huangpu Old Port. In total, five new suppliers were added.
In this regard, the Chinese port stated that "the construction of this shore power supply project was carried out with a strict schedule and a clear plan. After the installation of the main equipment, the project team completed the system commissioning and joint testing, in addition to providing specialized training and conducting practical drills for all personnel."
"These drills covered key aspects such as operational procedures, safety protection, and emergency response, thus ensuring personnel competence and compliance with operation and maintenance standards. During the testing phase, all technical parameters, protection functions, and power supply performance remained stable and fully met the design specifications, allowing for the successful transition to the standardized operation of the project," it was affirmed.
Furthermore, it was specified that "the five newly incorporated low-voltage shore power supply systems for large vessels are specifically designed for general-purpose vessels docking at berths 4 to 8. They offer ample power capacity and high load capacity, covering all energy needs during berthing, including cabins, equipment maintenance, and the operation of auxiliary systems."
"Additionally, a low-voltage shore power supply system for barges is specifically designed for use by barges operating in the port area, covering the lack of power supply at some berths and effectively addressing the 'last mile' of green energy utilization for docked vessels," it was added.
Finally, the port indicated that "with the full implementation of the shore power supply system, docked vessels can now connect to the electrical grid, achieving zero emissions, zero fuel consumption, and zero noise during berthing, which significantly improves the overall operational environment and air quality in the port area," the statement concluded.
