A Konecranes gantry crane is being equipped with a hydrogen system from zepp.solutions. Real-time tests of the hydrogen-powered Konecranes Noell, which are being carried out at the Port of Hamburg, are yielding positive initial results.
The hydrogen-powered gantry crane incorporates a hydrogen fuel cell system supplied by zepp.solutions, whose team also supports its integration into Konecranes' redesigned D200 platform.
Konecranes is analyzing how hydrogen serves as a complementary option when grid limitations or operational demands push battery technology to its limits. As Jonas Brendelberger, Commercial Director at zepp.solutions, explains, "integrating the fuel cell system, hydrogen storage, and power electronics within the reduced space and weight constraints of heavy-duty port equipment is crucial for hydrogen to work in practice."
