Thirteen years after the proposal for the joint construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, China and Latin America have expanded their commercial and port ties across the Pacific. In 2025, trade between China and Latin America and the Caribbean reached USD 565.28 billion.
The Port of Chancay, in Peru, has consolidated itself as a relevant point of this connectivity through the direct route to Shanghai. After more than a year of operations, the terminal has three main routes and four feeder routes that connect with ports in China and other countries in the region.
Connectivity also reaches Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, and Panama, expanding trade alternatives in the Pacific. Cooperation between China and Latin America also incorporates ocean technology, ecosystem protection, clean energy, and the digital economy.
