The Georgia Department of Transportation will inaugurate a high-volume cargo corridor in Savannah, streamlining the flow of goods at one of the fastest-growing ports in the United States.
The Brampton Road Connector, costing $126 million, is a new four-lane highway that connects Gate 3 of the Garden City Terminal directly to the interstate network, eliminating at-grade rail crossings and truck traffic in local neighborhoods.
The project offers truckers faster access to the Port of Savannah and a smoother route to inland markets.
"We want to thank our partners at the Georgia Department of Transportation for their important work in creating freight corridors that improve local communities and safer traffic flow for the future. Our trucking community will also achieve faster turnaround times at the port thanks to safer routes to the interior, which will benefit the speed of Savannah's supply chain," stated Griff Lynch, President and CEO of Georgia Ports.
"Improving freight traffic mobility from the port and increasing motorist safety on local streets are key objectives of this project. The Brampton Road Connector achieves both objectives simultaneously," added Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner, Russell R. McMurry.
The Brampton Road project is the final piece in a series of GDOT projects aimed at establishing a freight bypass in Savannah.
