Construction of the bridge over the Monday River (Paraguay) has reached 45% completion. The infrastructure promises to directly connect the districts of Presidente Franco and Los Cedrales; in addition to facilitating cargo transport, strengthening the commercial activity of the area.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Communications of Paraguay, "the bridge is part of the Metropolitan Corridor of the East (CMDE) and constitutes a strategic connection with the accesses to the Paraguay-Brazil Integration Bridge."
"Once operational, it will improve the distribution of traffic linked to border movement and will contribute to diverting heavy vehicles from urban areas, creating better circulation conditions for the population," it added.
Regarding the infrastructure, it was detailed that "with 500 meters in length and 26.5 meters in width, the structure will have four lanes of 3.60 meters, in addition to shoulders protected with New Jersey barriers. It will also have pedestrian sidewalks and bike paths on both sides, incorporating spaces for non-motorized travel and safer conditions for different users."
Regarding the ongoing works, it was indicated that "they are mainly focused on the construction of the elements that will support and provide stability to the structure. Abutments 01 and 02, located at the ends of the bridge and responsible for supporting the structure and containing the access terrain, have already been fully executed and currently show a 10% progress in structural backfills."
"On the banks of the river are the main piers, which are the vertical supports responsible for holding the bridge between its ends. Pier 05 has already completed earthworks, foundations, and the structure, with the execution of the segment remaining, an element that will form the section of the structure that will extend from this support. At Pier 06, 20 of the 32 planned piles have been executed, reaching 62% progress in this stage," the publication stated.
Finally, it was detailed that "as for the lintels, these are horizontal elements placed on the piers to distribute loads and support the upper structure of the bridge. The progressive completion of these components will allow the continuation of the next stages of superstructure assembly, bringing the project closer to its future commissioning."
