DaChan Bay Terminals announced the implementation of the single customs declaration procedure for maritime transshipments, representing a significant milestone in streamlining multimodal shipments through the Chinese port.
Thanks to this initiative, exporters only need to submit one customs declaration for cargo transiting through different customs jurisdictions within mainland China, allowing shipments to reach international markets more quickly.
The inaugural shipment consisted of goods transported by barge from Zhongshan to DaChan Bay Terminals, where they were loaded onto the ZIM Norfolk vessel for their onward journey to the Mediterranean. The new procedure simplifies the traditional customs clearance process, which previously involved segmented declarations, multiple reviews, and verifications.
Shipments from the Pearl River Delta to their final destinations via DaChan Bay are expected to save one to two days in transit time, allowing export goods from the western cities of the Pearl River Delta to connect more efficiently with international shipping services and reach foreign markets faster.
Brian Yeung, Managing Director of DaChan Bay Terminals, stated that "the launch of the single declaration procedure for maritime transshipments represents a significant advance in our efforts to position DaChan Bay Terminals as an efficient and fast gateway for multimodal shipments. Going forward, we will continue to deepen collaboration with authorities and our shipping clients to enhance our services and contribute to the growth of exports from the Greater Bay Area."
Located at the mouth of the Pearl River, DaChan Bay Terminals benefits from an extensive network of barge services, positioning it as a hub for cargo transshipment between ports. More than 100 barge services call at the terminal each week, enabling efficient cargo movement between DaChan Bay and other ports in the Delta.
