At the IV Naval Zone Auditorium, the seminar "Challenges for Iquique's Maritime Port Activity in view of the implementation of the Bioceanic Corridor" was held, organized by the Maritime Governorate of Iquique. On the occasion, EPI's General Manager, Rubén Castro Hurtado, presented the exhibition "Roadmap for the Implementation of the Regional Logistics Policy," a proposal led by the port company that seeks to structure a comprehensive long-term strategy for the Tarapacá Region.
This proposal is the result of continuous work promoted by EPI, which has involved an extensive socialization process with regional authorities, public services, and private sector guilds. The main objective has been to connect the diverse visions and needs of the members of Tarapacá's productive and logistics chains, building a consensual perspective in view of the new scenario opened by the Bioceanic Corridor and the opportunities in the mining sector.
In this regard, the General Manager of Empresa Portuaria Iquique, Rubén Castro Hurtado, highlighted the strategic importance of this call: "We are resuming a path we have traveled for a long time, which is to develop port capacities. And these needs must converge in the development of enabling infrastructure that allows us to sustain this growth," said the executive.
"In this context, the development of a Regional Logistics Policy, such as the one we promote at EPI, allows us to adequately coordinate all decision-making actors. Thus, this policy proposal is a call that I would say is one of the most important in recent times, because this commercial and infrastructure development converses with control measures to prevent cargo flows from being contaminated with drug trafficking or organized crime. We must aspire to sustainable development that is identifiable with a real option for the Tarapacá Region," emphasized Castro.
The seminar also featured interventions by the Commissioner of the Northern Macrozone, Alberto Soto; the General Manager of Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI), Rodrigo Pommiez; and the Port Captain of Iquique, Captain Cristián Concha, who addressed security and operational management issues within the framework of macrozonal integration.
With the presentation on this strategic roadmap, Empresa Portuaria Iquique reaffirms its role as an articulating actor in the sustainable development and logistical competitiveness of the territory.
