Within the framework of the socialization process of the Regional Logistics Policy proposal promoted by Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI), representatives of the state-owned company held a working session with regional ministerial secretaries of Public Works (MOP), Transport and Telecommunications (MTT), and Social Development and Family (Midesof) of Tarapacá.
"The strategic axes of the proposal, which seeks to consolidate Tarapacá as a logistics hub in the South American macro-zone, strengthen infrastructure, digitalization, sustainability, and connectivity with key projects such as bioceanic corridors, mining projects, the opening of maritime cabotage, among other demand triggers," EPI communicated.
"Emphasis was placed on the importance of the bidding process for the new concession of the Port of Iquique, providing the guidelines for the roadmap for the development of the port facility for the coming decades," it added.
In line with what was reported by the state port company, the regional authorities valued EPI's initiative to open spaces for direct and transparent dialogue, providing their visions and contributions from each of their portfolios to enrich the proposal and reaffirm a transversal commitment to the sustainable and comprehensive development of the region.
In this regard, the Seremi of MOP, Enrique Martínez, stated that "it was relevant to know the main guidelines of the Port Master Plan for the Port of Iquique. It is fundamental to coordinate together the plans that the Ministry of Public Works has regarding the infrastructure required by the region to connect the port and international cargo with all productive sectors of Tarapacá."
For his part, the Seremi of MTT, Carlos Navarrete, commented that "this policy proposal is indispensable so that, by 2050, we can have a city and a region with relevant milestones to improve the port. This implies both internal and external improvements, the incorporation of technology, and also, why not say it, having a projection in terms of connectivity of our routes, both external and internal, towards the Port of Iquique."
In turn, Katherine Flores, Seremi of the Social Development and Family portfolio, specified that "we witnessed the presentation of the master plan, which we know will mean a great enhancement for the economy, investment, and all the growth that our region needs as a logistics and commercial platform for Tarapacá. We know the importance of working together to address different matters and continue advancing in the realization of this plan."
"It is fundamental that the Regional Logistics Policy proposal is built from diverse and representative perspectives. We value the discussion and analysis provided, because we are convinced that only through this joint work will we achieve the design of a robust instrument that responds to the true challenges of the region and successfully plans the future of Tarapacá," concluded the Chairman of the EPI Board, Max Barrera.
