With a first working session that brought together teams from Empresa Portuaria San Antonio (EPSA) and specialists linked to the Science to Business program of Adolfo Ibáñez University, a co-creation project was launched to explore a technological solution that improves and optimizes the land logistics processes of the Port of San Antonio.
The initiative, promoted by EPSA's Digital Transformation, Innovation, and IT Sub-management in conjunction with the university, proposes a collaborative working method between the port and scientific worlds, incorporating the knowledge of those directly involved in the operation from the early stages of the project.
The challenge aims to move towards more intelligent and predictive management of truck flow at the Port of San Antonio, strengthening the planning and synchronization of the different actors involved in the arrival and dispatch of land cargo.
Jorge Santos, Deputy Operations Manager of Puerto San Antonio, highlighted that "working with the Science to Business program of Adolfo Ibáñez University is very important because it allows us to address challenges inherent to the company's logistical core from research, but always with a practical approach and with the aim that the solutions can subsequently be transformed into tools applicable to the operation."
The executive added that "we have identified the gaps that we can address and, therefore, we hope that a solution with full applicability can generate significant benefits, mainly in terms of efficiency."
Manuel Reyes, from the Science to Business laboratory, explained that "the paradigm shift consists of working jointly between port personnel and researchers. In the classic model, research is developed and then sought to be brought to the industry; here, the idea is to incorporate the company into the research and development process itself. This allows the solution to be built from the beginning considering the real challenge and the conditions in which it will have to be applied."
"What we seek is to understand how we can make the capabilities of scientific teams available to solve concrete problems of organizations. In this program, we not only define the challenge together with the company, but researchers actively work with the organization's teams in the development of the solution," said Francisco Pizarro, a member of the same team of specialists.
