Los Libertadores Pass Closed Due to Weather Conditions

The Los Libertadores international border crossing will be closed again due to weather conditions. The operation of the Cristo Redentor Integrated System will be interrupted from 1:00 PM in Chile and 2:00 PM in Argentina, on August 24.

Through a statement, the Provincial Presidential Delegation of Los Andes reported that "according to a meeting held by the Chilean and Argentine Coordination Committee, held on Sunday, August 23, and by virtue of the technical reports provided by both road authorities, due to the announced climatic instabilities for the high mountains, a situation that would affect safe transit for users, international transit for all types of vehicles is preventively suspended for this Monday, August 24."

"The measure is due to unfavorable weather conditions in the high mountains (snowfall) in both sectors that do not guarantee safe transit conditions," the circular added.

Furthermore, it was detailed that "regarding internal transit and tourism, the entry of all types of tourists from Guardia Vieja to the Portillo sector exclusively will be allowed until 12:00 PM on August 24; with the maximum and limit departure time being 5:00 PM on Monday, August 24."

"According to climate forecasts so far, for the next adverse event, they indicate that the meteorological situation will remain until Monday, August 31, a situation that would affect the transitability and safe opening of the international corridor, so it is recommended to plan your trip in advance, prioritizing the urgency and necessity of returning to your respective countries," the statement concluded.

It is worth remembering that on August 18, the reopening of the international route was announced after remaining closed for 34 days.
