Konecranes has received an order from Port Otago Limited for ten Konecranes Noell hybrid straddle carriers equipped with twin-lift spreaders and the complete Konecranes Noell fleet management system. The order was placed in June 2026 and will be delivered by the end of August 2027.
Port Otago is a key gateway for international trade in the southern region of New Zealand's South Island. The straddle carriers will be used for handling import and export ISO containers, contributing to the efficiency of container operations at the port and the development of future terminals.
"As we continue to modernize our container handling operations and prepare for future growth, we needed a solution that combined high-performance equipment, advanced fleet management capabilities, and strong local support. Konecranes was able to offer us all three, making them the ideal partner for this investment," said Kevin Kearney, Strategic Projects Manager at Port Otago.
The order includes ten Konecranes Noell hybrid straddle carriers with twin-lift spreaders. They are delivered fully assembled, offer a lifting capacity of 60 tons, allow stacking containers up to four high, and are equipped with four-wheel drive. The twin-lift spreaders can handle two 20-foot containers or one 40-foot container, facilitating flexible and efficient container handling operations. The complete Konecranes Noell fleet management system is also included, providing comprehensive telemetry and operational data for the entire fleet.
The hybrid technology will help Port Otago improve its operational performance and reduce fuel consumption compared to its current diesel fleet. Combined with advanced fleet management capabilities, the solution will enable data-driven decision-making, fleet-wide performance analysis, and efficient equipment utilization.
