The Biminister of Public Works and Transport, Louis de Grange, visited the construction works of the concession project called Route 78 to Route 68 Road Connection, among whose objectives is to facilitate access to the port cities of San Antonio and Valparaíso from Santiago.
The public work, executed through the Concessions System, with a total approximate length of 9.4 kilometers, is located in Pudahuel and Maipú and seeks to improve connectivity between these communes with the eastern sector of Santiago, as well as the connection with the ports of the Valparaíso region, allowing Route 68 to be connected with Route 78 in approximately five minutes.
The layout of this express highway will have two lanes in each direction, expandable to three, and with grade-separated interchanges at the connections with Route 68, Callejón Los Perros, and Route 78. The work is important as it provides the Metropolitan region with a second road ring outside of Américo Vespucio.
Biminister De Grange indicated that the work "will not only favor circulation within the communes of Maipú and Pudahuel but will also greatly improve cargo transport, the circulation of trucks. It is a comprehensive project with two lanes in each direction."
The works have 20% progress and are expected to be operational in November 2027.
