Within the framework of maritime security and border control strategies, a multi-sectoral team led by the Chilean Navy coordinated an anti-narcotics inspection of an international vessel, registered under the flag of Japan, which was docked at the Port of Corral.
The joint operation involved personnel from the Maritime Governorate of Valdivia, the Port Captaincy of Corral, Carabineros de Chile, and the National Customs Service.
Specifically, authorities boarded the vessel Daio Austral, which arrived from Japan at the Portuaria Corral terminal to load wood chips. Its arrival marked the beginning of operations for the port facility's new dome, an infrastructure linked to Hanseatic Global Terminals Latin America and Sociedad de Inversiones Portuarias IP.
In this regard, Juan Pablo Arancibia Andaur, Captain of the Littoral Navy and Maritime Governor of Valdivia, stated that "we are at Portuaria Corral, in the Port of Corral, for an anchoring inspection operation of a motor vessel, together with Carabineros de Chile (OS7), customs personnel, and the Maritime Police. We reinforce our commitment and inspection of vessels and maritime-port activity with this anchoring inspection."
The operation deployed more than twenty officials from the various inspection agencies, who were supported by five K9 units belonging to the Maritime Police, Customs, and Carabineros.
Control tasks were carried out by teams comprising a K9 unit, which toured the different levels and dependencies of the 17-year-old vessel. After the exhaustive review, no detection of narcotics or any other type of fault or non-compliance was reported.
The Daio Austral, 210 meters long, 37 meters wide, and linked to NYK Bulkship Partners, is currently sailing off the coast of the La Araucanía Region en route to the Port of Mishima, Japan.
