The port area of Barranquilla recorded 107 arrivals during August 2026, a figure that marks the highest number of vessels registered in the recent history of the Colombian port complex. The information was released by the Association of Atlantic Ports (Asoportuaria).
This result comes just weeks after the port area registered the movement of 1.317 million tons in July, becoming a record figure for a single month.
Adding to these indicators is the recent increase in operational draft to 10.4 meters, announced by the Barranquilla Port Authority. This new condition allows for the projection of the arrival and departure of vessels with greater cargo capacity, strengthening the port's operational conditions.
The executive director of Asoportuaria, Lucas Ariza, explained that this performance involves the coordinated work of various stakeholders such as the Maritime Authority (Dimar), practical pilots, tugboat companies, shipping agencies, port operators, and river transport companies, among other participants in the activity.
"This is good news not only for the terminals but for the entire value chain of port activity that allows the safe arrival and departure of these motor vessels, such as the Maritime Authority Dimar, practical pilots, tugboat companies, shipping agencies, port operators, river transport companies, among others," said Ariza.
For her part, the president of Asoportuaria's Board of Directors, Zoraida Molina, attributed these results to the articulated work between different public and private actors.
"It is a reflection of the articulated work being done with entities such as Cormagdalena, the Mayor's Office of Barranquilla, and the Government of Atlántico, and other sector guilds, to highlight the competitiveness of the city of Barranquilla, showcasing all its logistical advantages and the drive of its industry and commerce," she stated.
