Launched in March 2026, the partnership supports 24 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through a 15-month state-recognized port technician training program in Rio de Janeiro. The 1,000-hour curriculum combines theoretical and practical training in key areas including logistics, port legislation and safety, maritime trade, river transport, and import-export and customs operations, with simulator sessions.
As part of the program, 19 students of the first "CMA CGM Foundation Cohort" took part on September 3 in a technical visit to International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI Rio), at the Port of Rio de Janeiro. This visit gave them hands-on exposure to container terminal operations and the maritime logistics chain. Eduardo GALO, CEO of Mercosul Line, and Anielle CARDOSO, CMA Ships Managing Director, joined the visit and shared practical insights into port operations, market challenges and maritime transport.
Beyond training, the CMA CGM Foundation will support beneficiaries toward employment. At the end of the program, FEMAR will organize a recruitment campaign with the support of the CMA CGM Group to facilitate their professional integration into the port and logistics sector. The highest-performing candidates will also have opportunities within the CMA CGM Group.
Founded in 1966, the Fundação de Estudos do Mar (FEMAR) is a recognized leader in maritime training and research. It conducts studies on issues related to ports, navigation, shipbuilding, and fishing, and collaborates with leading institutions such as the National Navy, the Brazilian Center of Excellence for the Sea, the Brazilian Mediation and Arbitration Center, and the Directorate of Ports and Coasts. As part of this partnership, FEMAR handles the selection of beneficiaries, the operational implementation of the training, and pedagogical monitoring throughout the program.
The CMA CGM Foundation places education for all at the heart of its priorities and supports initiatives carried out close to the ground. Since 2005, it has collaborated with more than 320 educational organizations to implement numerous educational projects worldwide and has contributed to the construction or renovation of 22 educational infrastructures in several countries, including Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Indonesia, India, Vietnam.
In Brazil, it supports initiatives that promote access to vocational training, social and professional integration of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since 2024, it partners with Gol de Letra Foundation to develop its educational programs and to develop a logistics training program for 60 young people, in collaboration with CEVA Logistics.
