San Juan de Marcona, September 26, 2026.- The new San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal today took a decisive step towards its execution with the formalization of the land handover where the project will be developed, as a result of the work led by PROINVERSIÓN, and the coordination with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and San Juan Port S.A., with the participation of representatives from the National Port Authority (APN) and the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Public Transport Infrastructure (OSITRAN).
The handover of the area was formalized through the signing of the concession contract between the entities and actors involved. This act concretizes a fundamental condition to give continuity to the next stages of the project and advance towards the start of engineering and construction activities.
«The land handover allows the project to continue and commits us to continue coordinating with the involved entities to facilitate its execution. At PROINVERSIÓN, through APP 5.0, we are strengthening this accompaniment so that agreements translate into concrete investments for the country,» said the executive president of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis del Carpio.
After the formalization of the handover, representatives of PROINVERSIÓN, MTC, San Juan Port S.A., APN, and OSITRAN moved to the area where the new port terminal will be developed, verifying the land conditions on site and coordinating the corresponding actions for this new stage of the project.
This milestone occurs after the agreement signed on September 24 between PROINVERSIÓN and Shougang Hierro Perú S.A.A., which allowed overcoming the impediment that kept the contractual term suspended and generating the necessary conditions to advance with the effective handover of the area to San Juan Port S.A. and the continuity of the project.
In this process, PROINVERSIÓN has been consolidating a role oriented not only to the structuring and awarding of projects but also to accompanying their continuity, coordinating the involved entities, and contributing to timely overcoming factors that may affect their execution, facilitating that investments advance towards their materialization.
The New San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal contemplates an investment of US$ 404.8 million and will have the capacity to handle bulk cargo, general cargo, and containerized cargo. The project includes a 30-year concession for the design, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and transfer of the port infrastructure.
The new infrastructure will have an area of influence comprising 29 provinces and 280 districts, with a great impact on employment and social development. During its first five years, the generation of approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs is estimated. Likewise, it contemplates a Social Fund that would raise approximately S/290 million, intended to finance initiatives benefiting the populations of Marcona and Nazca.
