The Ministry of Transport and Communications participated in the inauguration of the stabilization and treatment work of the Domo La Virgen slope in Islay, located in the vicinity of the Matarani Fishing Pier, in the Arequipa region, which will provide a safe environment for fishermen and the population linked to the Océano Seafood Private Pier.
After INGEMMET's evaluation, which identified the area as high risk due to landslides and rockfalls, and at the request of fishermen and regional and local authorities, the Concessionaire of the Matarani Port Terminal, TISUR, as part of its social responsibility policy, undertook the design, execution, and financing of the slope stabilization works to reduce the risk.
The intervention included the removal of approximately 165,000 m³ of material and the construction of six benches to stabilize the slope. Also, 34 concrete walls were built to protect the areas used by fishermen and the population linked to the Océano Seafood Private Pier, in addition to relocating the religious area of the Virgen de la Medalla Milagrosa.
With this work, fishermen and the population have a safe environment, as the risk of landslides and rockfalls is reduced. Likewise, the measure provides greater security for the activities carried out at the Océano Seafood Private Pier and contributes to protecting the areas used by fishermen. The investment is S/ 10.9 million.
The event was attended by the General Director of Transport Programs and Projects, Gabriela Beatriz Lara Ruiz; the mayor of Islay, Irwin Santoyo; and representatives of fishermen.
The completion of these works strengthens safety around the Matarani Fishing Pier and provides greater protection for fishermen, the population, and the activities carried out in this area.
