Port of Callao and Miami Sign Port Cooperation Declaration

The declaration includes the exchange of information and experiences, technical visits, and the formation of a working group to promote new cooperation opportunities.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), the entity responsible for leading and promoting the development of the National Port System, signed today, September 23, with the presence of the sector's minister, José Tangherlini, a declaration with PortMiami – Dante B. Fascell, located in Florida, United States, which formalizes the Sister Port relationship between the Port of Callao and the Port of Miami.

The initiative opens new opportunities to strengthen ties between Peru and the United States, through cooperation on issues of common interest, such as the cargo and cruise industries, the exchange of statistical information, and the development of port infrastructure aimed at boosting maritime traffic.

Among the planned actions are the exchange of knowledge and experiences on port development, as well as the possibility of conducting educational and technical visits to share best practices and learn about the experiences of both port communities. In addition, the formation of a working group is contemplated to help implement the planned cooperation actions through specific instruments.

The declaration also foresees the incorporation of new areas of cooperation, provided there is mutual agreement between the participants, which will allow exploring other collaboration opportunities for the benefit of both ports.

"This instrument acquires special significance in the context of strengthening relations between Peru and the United States, and constitutes a concrete example of how international cooperation can translate into actions that contribute to economic development and the progress of our peoples. It is an alliance between two leading ports in the Americas," said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the APN, Abel Alvarado.

For his part, Eric Olafson, Director of Global Trade and Business Development at PortMiami, highlighted: "We already maintain a strong relationship with the Port of Callao, with two maritime services connecting both ports. I am sure that, with the support of Ambassador Bernie Navarro, we will continue to strengthen the ties between our countries and increase cargo movement."

The ceremonial event, held at the South Container Terminal facilities of the Port of Callao, operated by DP World Callao, was also attended by the United States Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro; the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Peru, Ibrahim Salem Alalawi; and the CEO of DP World in Peru and Ecuador, Carlos Merino.

At the end of the ceremony, the representatives toured the facilities of the South Pier of the Port of Callao, where they learned about the operations and main areas of the port terminal.

With this initiative, the APN promotes port cooperation between Peru and the United States, generating opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experiences that contribute to the modernization, competitiveness, and sustainable development of the National Port System, for the benefit of foreign trade and the country's integration with international markets.
