A group of Thai employees from Shandong Port Group's (SPG) Laem Chabang terminal recently traveled to Qingdao for some hands-on training, gaining firsthand experience of the technologies and practices behind a smart port.

The visit came after SPG's smart terminal system went into operation in Thailand in June, turning Laem Chabang into the country's first terminal with unmanned yard operations. The new system has generated strong interest among local employees, many of whom were eager to visit Qingdao and learn from the experience behind its development.
At the Qingdao container terminal, the Thai employees observed automated operations up close and were struck by the speed and precision of their Chinese colleagues. At one point, they tried to record the operating procedures on their phones, only to find the process moving faster than they could capture. The Qingdao team then slowed down and walked them through each step in detail.
The lessons continued after the employees returned to Thailand. They organized a sharing session in Thai, passing on what they had learned to their colleagues and helping turn their Qingdao experience into practical know-how for Laem Chabang.

The exchange has strengthened operational collaboration between the two teams while supporting the continued development of smart port operations in Thailand.
