The Association of Shipping Agents and Port Companies of the Port of Malaga (ACEMAR) and the State Coordinator of Sea Workers of the Port of Malaga, with the presence of the Port Authority, signed today the Sectoral Collective Bargaining Agreement for the regulation of stevedoring labor relations in the port facility of Malaga.
The agreement, advised by Francisco Vila Tierno, Professor of Labor Law at the University of Malaga, has a ten-year validity and is the result of a prolonged collective bargaining process developed between business and union organizations. This action represents an important step to consolidate the job stability of a group comprising 159 permanent and 21 temporary workers and to promote the development of stevedoring activity in the Port of Malaga, also with a view to job creation in a sector that has seen an increase in demand for jobs in recent years.
The signing of the agreement is part of a dialogue process that has led to significant advances in recent years. In 2022, the parties negotiated the maintenance of EstiMálaga CPE, S. A., a company that currently groups most of the stevedoring personnel at the Port of Malaga.
Subsequently, the increase in activity of the shipping company MSC at Noatum Terminal Málaga, together with the agreements reached through collective bargaining, allowed the expansion of EstiMálaga's workforce with the incorporation of 82 new workers with indefinite contracts and facilitated the training of another 19 temporary workers.
In parallel, since 2024, business and social representation has worked on the negotiation of the now-signed sectoral agreement, which provides a long-term framework for labor relations for stevedoring activity in the port of Malaga.
The ten-year validity constitutes a shared challenge for the signatory organizations and for all agents involved in port activity. Within this horizon, the main objectives are to advance productivity, reinforce workplace safety, and optimize the services that the Port of Malaga offers to the business community in its area of influence.
These lines of action seek to contribute to the improvement of goods import and export processes, as well as to strengthen the operational and competitive capacity of the Malaga dock.
In this way, the Port Authority of Malaga, together with the stevedoring companies and the workers' representation, reinforce their commitment to social dialogue and the search for agreements that favor the development of port activity and consolidate the Port of Malaga as a job-generating space and an economic driver.
