As part of the "Vive Tu Puerto" campaign, an initiative promoted by Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) to bring port and industrial activities closer to the community and the academic world, the state-owned company received an international delegation from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA), a higher education institution from Bolivia, from its main campus in La Paz.
The delegation, composed of 42 ninth-semester Industrial Engineering students and coordinated by academic Oswaldo Terán, toured the facilities on-site to learn about the operational, logistical, and maritime functioning of the enclosure. The activity allowed the future engineers to gain insight into one of the main economic activities of the Tarapacá Region, observing the dynamics of cargo transfer and the operational aspects that characterize the port facility.
Bolivia is the port's main regional client, a country that shows a gradual reactivation of its economy. In this scenario, the Port of Iquique provides logistical certainty to supply chain actors, consolidating it as the natural and most efficient platform for Bolivian international trade to and from the Pacific basin.
Student Carlos Chávez, a member of the UMSA delegation, highlighted that "for us, it is a very good and beautiful experience to get to know the port here so that we can enrich ourselves with this knowledge. I was mainly struck by how they are organized through technology and the different types of cranes they have to load or unload different types of containers."
Through the "Vive Tu Puerto" campaign, EPI reaffirms its firm commitment to consolidate ties with the academic and commercial ecosystem of the region and neighboring countries, promoting technical knowledge and valuing the impact of port work on territorial and cross-border development.
