MacGregor has secured orders to supply advanced deck cranes, handling equipment, and deck machinery for four new oceanographic research vessels.
The orders were recorded in MacGregor's order book for the second and third quarters of 2026, with equipment deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027 and conclude no later than the third quarter of 2029.
Two of the vessels will be built at Gondan shipyards in Spain for the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). The remaining two will be built at Titagarh Naval Systems Limited in India for the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
"At MacGregor, we have found an experienced manufacturer and supplier of scientific hoists and winches. This ensures a consistent operating philosophy across the new vessels. Furthermore, the systems are characterized by their robustness and trouble-free operation," stated Kai Twest, Head of the Maritime Transport Division at the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency.
"Research vessels are critical for oceanographic research, providing vital data for fields such as climatology and marine biology. We are pleased to see the trust placed in us to supply this crucial equipment for the success of future operations for both BSH and GSI," added Tomas Hakala, Executive Vice President of Global Services at MacGregor.
The scope of supply for the four vessels includes single-line CTD winches, cable winches, oceanographic winches, core sampler winches, davits for survey boats, CTD davits, deck cranes, stern A-frames, telescopic ROV arms, and core sampler handling systems with a sampler cradle.
