The fifth Royal Caribbean Icon Class ship reached a significant milestone with the laying of its keel at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.
With the first steel block now in place, the vessel's hull assembly is officially underway. The ship, currently named "Icon 5," is scheduled to debut in 2028.
"The start of construction for the fifth Icon Class ship reflects the strength of the long-term partnership between Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku. Building a series of ships allows us to continuously learn, improve, and innovate, and each new vessel benefits from the experience gained throughout the program," stated Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku.
"Together with our network of partners, we are proud to demonstrate the world-class shipbuilding capabilities developed in Turku and to help shape the future of cruise ship construction," Lindholm added.
Looking ahead, Royal Caribbean Group last year ordered a sixth and seventh Icon class ship from Meyer Turku, to be delivered in 2029 and 2030, respectively. The collaboration between the cruise line and the Finnish shipyard spans over three decades, during which 25 ships have been built for RCI.
