SAAM Towage received two new tugboats built by Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey, after successfully completing their sea trials. The units, named SAAM Carancho and SAAM Kanan, will be assigned to operations in Chile and Mexico, respectively.
"These new units reflect our ongoing work to modernize our fleet and offer solutions tailored to the needs of our clients and their operations. These advancements are part of our growth path, which we have set as a strategic objective," said Pablo Cáceres, Innovation and New Constructions Manager at SAAM Towage.
With these additions, the company now has 15 vessels built by Sanmar in its fleet, strengthening an alliance that began in 2018 and is based on shared standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
SAAM Carancho is an Escort-notated tugboat of the Bigaçay class, based on the RAstar 2900SX design with 80 tons of bollard pull, 12 knots of speed, 2,350 kW CAT engines, a constant tension maneuvering winch, and Fire-Fighting 1 type fire attack capability. The unit will operate in Chile, supporting services that require high responsiveness in different sea conditions and performance in restricted maneuvering spaces.
SAAM Kanan, of the Bogaçay class, follows Robert Allan's RAmparts 2400SX-MKII model, with 80 tons of static bollard pull, great maneuverability in restricted maneuvering spaces, also with 2,350 kW CAT engines, and Fire-Fighting 1 Class notation, specially adapted for high-traffic ports. The vessel will be incorporated into the company's operations in Mexico to provide efficient and safe assistance in these port environments.
