A South Korean container ship arrived in Great Britain this Saturday, September 12, after sailing through the Arctic route, marking the first such voyage by a Korean container ship to Europe, according to the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The PanStar Acro departed from the port of Busan, in the country's southeast, on August 22, entered the Northern Sea Route on August 31, and arrived in Felixstowe, Great Britain, its first European port of call, 21 days after its departure.
According to the ministry, it is scheduled to call at Rotterdam (Netherlands) on September 13 and Gdansk (Poland) on September 16, before returning to Busan on October 12.
President Lee Jae Myung congratulated the ship on its maiden voyage through the Arctic route.
"I congratulate and thank the captain and crew members who pioneered this historic Arctic route," Lee wrote on the social media platform X. "Let's wish the PanStar Acro a safe return and a successful exploration of the Arctic route."
