South Korea reiterated the need to resume negotiations with Mexico to finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Discussions for this bilateral agreement have been stalled since 2008.
The call was made during an event organized in Seoul by the Mexican Ambassador to South Korea, Carlos Peñafiel, who emphasized the close economic and cultural ties between these two nations over the past decades.
In this context, South Korean chief trade negotiator, Park Jung-sung, stated that "Mexico is a vital strategic partner connecting South Korea with North America, calling for the reactivation of negotiations to conclude an FTA between both countries as soon as possible, establishing a stable and lasting trade network."
Furthermore, Peñafiel added that "with the presence of more than 2,000 South Korean companies in Mexico, our economies are deeply integrated into the supply chains that form the future of North America."
"Beyond economic and commercial strength, our cooperation looks towards the future: we collaborate in space research, clean energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced industries," concluded the Mexican Ambassador to South Korea.
