The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has taken immediate action in response to the recent inclusion of a Panamanian firm, its partners, and seven vessels registered in the Panama Ship Registry on the sanctions list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Actions taken include:
Proactively, the AMP has strengthened its pre-flagging control mechanisms to prevent the inclusion of undesirable actors from entering the Panamanian flag. Every vessel requesting entry into the Registry, as well as its owners, operators, and charterers, must comply with a thorough due diligence process.
The AMP reiterates its firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against the misuse of the Ship Registry, as well as the exclusion of vessels, companies, suppliers, and other stakeholders included in international sanctions lists recognized by the Panamanian State.
