In the framework of consolidating Peru as a strategic logistics hub in the region, the National Port Authority (APN), an entity attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), led the II Session of the Multisectoral Commission for Foreign Trade Facilitation (COMUFAL). This key meeting brought together representatives from the public and private sectors to articulate strategies aimed at optimizing the logistics chain's operations and boosting the country's international trade.
The session featured prominent participation from the Peruvian Association of Shipping Agents (APAM), represented by its general manager, Mr. Sabino Zaconeta. During the working group, the sector's commitment to the modernization and fluidity of foreign trade was reaffirmed, providing the essential technical and operational vision to guarantee the continuity and efficiency of operations in Peruvian ports.
Among the thematic axes addressed in the session, APN emphasized the need to strengthen institutional coordination for the implementation of joint controls among the various state authorities. Likewise, strategic initiatives with high national impact were prioritized, such as the promotion and encouragement of maritime cabotage as an efficient logistics alternative, and the presentation of APN's contingency plan to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon on port infrastructure and operations.
The active presence of Sabino Zaconeta and APAM in COMUFAL underscores the relevance of the public-private alliance in facing the sector's operational challenges. The concerted efforts between the State and maritime associations are consolidated as a fundamental pillar for reducing times, simplifying processes, and raising the competitiveness standards of Peruvian foreign trade.
