The National Port Authority (APN), an entity attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), reports that, between January and July 2026, the country's public-use port terminals mobilized 41.3 million metric tons (MT) of cargo, registering a growth of 5.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.
This result demonstrates the dynamism of port activity and the strategic role of public-use terminals in the movement of goods, foreign trade, and the country's connectivity.
Of the total mobilized, containerized general cargo accounted for the largest volume, registering 22.2 million MT (53.8%). This was followed by solid bulk cargo, with 7.4 million MT (18.2%); minerals, with 7 million MT (17.1%); break bulk cargo, with 2.6 million MT (6.4%); liquid bulk cargo, with 1.5 million MT (3.6%); and rolling cargo, with 359 thousand MT (0.9%).
More than 2.4 million TEUs mobilized
The dynamism was also reflected in container movement, which exceeded 2.4 million TEUs, a figure representing a 9.1% increase compared to January-July 2025.
Among the main terminals by container movement, the Callao South Container Terminal, operated by DP World, stands out with 1,263,323 TEUs (51.7%); the Callao North Multipurpose Terminal, operated by APM Terminals, with 682,031 TEUs (27.9%); the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal, with 246,452 TEUs (10.1%); and the Paita Port Terminal, with 196,001 TEUs (8%).
Regarding the total volume of cargo, Callao South Dock concentrated 12.97 million MT (31.4%), followed by Callao North Dock, with 11.03 million MT (26.7%); Matarani, with 4.87 million MT (11.8%); General San Martín, with 2.52 million MT (6.1%); Salaverry, with 2.17 million MT (5.2%); and Paita, with 1.91 million MT (4.6%).
These results reflect the importance of having modern, efficient, and competitive port infrastructure, capable of meeting growing demand and strengthening Peru's connectivity with major international markets.
In this context, the APN continues to promote actions aimed at the modernization and efficiency of the National Port System, as well as strengthening the security, connectivity, and competitiveness of the country's ports.
