The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), in coordination with the concessionaire DP World Callao, is promoting new investments to expand the infrastructure and equipment of the Container Terminal – South Dock of Callao, with the aim of increasing its operational capacity and strengthening the efficiency of the country's logistics chain.
For this purpose, the Vice Minister of Transport, Gabriela Carrasco Carrasco, along with the director of the General Directorate of Transport Programs and Projects (DGPPT), Gabriela Lara, and the director of the MTC Policy Directorate, Carolina Lenkey, made a working visit to the terminal, where they held a technical meeting with representatives of DP World Callao to review the main investments and initiatives linked to the growth of this port infrastructure.
One of the main topics addressed was the proposed Addendum N.° 4, presented by DP World Callao, which includes investments of approximately USD 1,470 million, including IGV, intended to expand the terminal's infrastructure and equipment, implement the Callao Foreport, and improve its access roads.
The proposal is currently under joint evaluation and requires coordination among the competent entities, including the National Port Authority (APN), the General Directorate of Transport Infrastructure (DGISTR), Provías, and the Provincial Municipality of Callao, in order to accompany the growth of port capacity with improvements in access and cargo transport flow.
By the end of 2025, the South Dock mobilized a record 2.079 million TEU, equivalent to approximately 62.5% of the containers mobilized in Callao. Currently, after the expansion of the Bicentennial Dock, the terminal has an installed capacity of up to 2.7 million TEU annually.
Furthermore, during the visit, the implementation of the Callao–Paita Maritime Humanitarian Corridor was reviewed, which will allow essential aid to be transported to the north of the country in the event of road interruptions, and the Shore Power Connection System project at Docks 2 and 3 was verified, which has an investment of USD 3.69 million, and shows 95% physical progress with completion scheduled for October 2026.
