EU Imposes Sanctions Calling For Strait of Hormuz Freedom of Navigation
The European Council announced sanctions against Iran's IRGC and two individuals, extending its legal framework to target those threatening freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The Council listed the Hormozgan Provincial Command of the IRGCN, which has implemented a toll system requiring vessels to provide documentation and cargo information. Restrictive measures now apply to 26 natural and legal persons and 27 entities, subject to asset freezes and travel bans. British, French, Italian, Dutch, and German assets are reportedly positioning for a potential mine clearance program.
