Interior Department Revises Arctic Drilling Regulations for Alaska Offshore
The U.S. Department of the Interior proposed targeted changes to federal regulations governing exploratory oil and gas drilling in Alaska's Arctic offshore through the newly established Marine Minerals Administration (MMA). The revisions would update the 2016 Arctic Exploratory Drilling Rule, reflecting technological advances and operational experience. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stated the changes strengthen regulatory efficiency while maintaining safety and environmental protections. The proposal will be published in the Federal Register, triggering a 90-day public comment period.
