EU Funds Pilot to Demonstrate Offshore Power Zones to Charge Vessels
The European Union's Horizon Europe program is providing a €5 million grant to an international consortium led by Stillstrom, a Maersk company, to develop offshore charging infrastructure for stationary vessels at anchor. The 36-month SPARK project will create an offshore power zone outside Skagen, Denmark, enabling vessels to plug into at-sea power points with electricity from the Port of Skagen, addressing emissions from more than 6,500 idle vessels worldwide collectively emitting over 30 million tons of greenhouse gases.
