Global Shipping Groups Oppose Proposed Hormuz Transit Tolls
Eight leading shipping organizations issued a joint letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez opposing compulsory transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz. The signatories—including ASA, BIMCO, CLIA, ECSA, ICS, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO, and WSC—warn that mandatory charges would violate international law under UNCLOS, disrupt global supply chains, and set a dangerous precedent for other strategic waterways. The intervention follows reports of Iran-Oman negotiations on Strait administration.
