Yantai Port Exceeds 500 Wind Turbine Blades Handled

Yantai Port, belonging to the Shandong Port Group (SPG), has independently handled over 500 wind turbine blades, following the departure of a vessel with six units, each over 100 meters long, from Pier 7 in the Penglai port area.

This shipment raised the cumulative total of independently handled wind turbine blades by the port to over 500, resulting in savings of more than 4 million yuan (USD 592,720) in outsourcing costs.

Key wind power component manufacturers, such as blades, towers, and nacelles, are located less than five kilometers from the port.

Leveraging this industrial hub, Yantai Port has developed a comprehensive logistics solution that transports equipment directly by road to the terminal for overseas shipment, thus connecting domestic manufacturers with global markets.

The port area is equipped with specialized lifting facilities, including a 500-metric-ton mast crane and gantry cranes with capacities ranging from 40 to 150 tons.

Its operations team has also refined lifting techniques for blades over 100 meters and established the port's first standardized operating system for wind power equipment.

The new process has improved efficiency by 40 percent, reducing the lifting time per blade from 40 minutes to 18 minutes, with no cargo damage or operational errors.
