Port of Santa Marta Intensifies Measures Against Arms Trafficking

The Port of Santa Marta reinforced its actions against arms trafficking after hosting a workshop organized by the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unit of the United States Government, in collaboration with the Santa Marta Port Society.

During the event, representatives from the National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian), the Customs Police, the Anti-Narcotics Police, the National Army, port managers, and judges from Magdalena participated, strengthening their knowledge and strategies to prevent illicit activity at strategic points of foreign trade.

The agenda included a tour of the port facilities, led by Domingo Chinea Barrera, president of the Santa Marta Port Society, and Carlos Suárez, vice president of Security, who presented the actions, investments, and articulated work with authorities to ensure increasingly secure operations.

Within the framework of the event, HSI presented a special recognition to the Port of Santa Marta for its willingness and collaboration with US authorities in favor of safer foreign trade.

"With world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge technology — such as the new container scanner operated by the Anti-Narcotics Police — and close inter-institutional cooperation, the Port of Santa Marta continues to consolidate itself as a strategic ally for the security and competitiveness of Colombian foreign trade," the company stated.
