San Ignacio de Velasco, Bolivia.
Bolivia and the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso have agreed to initiate the corresponding studies to create a new road corridor, with the objective of strengthening physical, logistical, and commercial integration between both countries.
The agreement was made within the framework of the Bolivia-Brazil integration meeting held in San Ignacio de Velasco with the participation of Bolivian President, Rodrigo Paz; the Governor of Santa Cruz, Juan Pablo Velasco; ministers of state; national, departmental, and municipal authorities; as well as a delegation from the State of Mato Grosso led by former governor, Mauro Mendes.
The new corridor will start from San Ignacio de Velasco and reach Marfil and the border with Brazil, consolidating the route. The studies will establish the technical characteristics of a road designed to improve connectivity in a region with high productive, forestry, and livestock potential, where dirt roads currently predominate, hindering transit during the rainy season and increasing the cost of transporting people and goods.
Furthermore, the initiative will facilitate access to national and international markets, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen the economic development of the communities in the region.
The project will connect this new corridor with the Fundamental Road Network and with the road network of the state of Mato Grosso, strengthening trade and integration between Bolivia and Brazil. Likewise, it will become a new strategic axis of the bi-oceanic corridor, consolidating San Ignacio de Velasco as a gateway for international connection.
