A temporary pier belonging to the Chibatão Group has been relocated to the Port of Itacoatiara. The departure was attended by representatives from industry, commerce, the Center for Industry of the State of Amazonas (Cieam), Brazil's Federal Revenue, shipowners, and members of the productive sector, who learned about the structure and operational details presented by the Chibatão Group's executive director, Jhony Fidelis.
This is the same structure that played a strategic role during the severe drought of 2024, when operations in Itacoatiara handled almost 59,000 containers, helping to maintain the flow of cargo to Amazonas.
This year, the pier remains ready to operate 24 hours a day, with three cranes for cargo handling and support equipment, in addition to a team of approximately 150 professionals.
The operation will also boost Itacoatiara's economy, as 50 of these professionals will be hired within the Amazon riverside municipality itself, equivalent to one in three workers in the operation. Food services, facilities, and other demands will also involve local participation, generating employment, income, and opportunities for the city.
"With the structure ready, teams prepared, and all necessary authorizations, the pier is heading to a strategic navigation point, ready to begin operations if the low tide imposes new restrictions on the flow of large vessels to Manaus. A solution that Amazonas has already seen work and is ready again to help protect the state's industry, commerce, and supply during the drought," announced the Chibatão Group.
