On August 1, 2026, TPM welcomed for the first time the MV BYD CHANGZHOU, one of the four exclusive Car Carrier vessels of the Chinese automotive giant, BYD. This 199-meter long, Liberian-flagged vessel is the first of its kind to call at Manta and was specifically designed for the efficient transport of new energy vehicles.
With a capacity to transport up to 7,000 vehicles, the vessel previously operated in Lázaro Cárdenas (Mexico), made a stopover in Balboa (Panama) for refueling, and arrived in Manta (Ecuador) to discharge 808 state-of-the-art BYD vehicles. After its last call, it sailed for San Antonio (Chile).
In this regard, Samuel Franco, Executive Vice President of TPM, highlighted that "this arrival is a clear example that we are doing things well. Receiving the MV BYD CHANGZHOU is like opening the doors of our home to a new highway of commercial opportunities. TPM's investments are yielding tangible results and consolidate us as the leading port in handling car carrier vessels and transshipment operations on the Pacific coast. This milestone not only represents an operational achievement for the port; it also boosts the local economy, generates commercial movement, and strengthens the competitiveness of Manta and Ecuador."
