Port Tarragona will premiere the second audiovisual capsule of the 'Port Stories' series this Tuesday, October 27th. This initiative, promoted by the Port Archive, aims to recover and disseminate episodes, spaces, and protagonists of Tarragona's port history, in a short and attractive format for the public. Titled 'The Glass Colossus. The Construction of a Symbol', this new production focuses on the institutional building of the Port Authority of Tarragona, a unique construction that, since its inauguration, has become one of the most emblematic elements of the city's maritime profile. The screening will take place at 7:00 PM in the Josefina Castellví room (ground floor) of the APT institutional headquarters.
The audiovisual capsule reviews the conception and construction process of the building, as well as the historical and economic context that made its execution possible. The work combines historical documentation preserved in the Port Archive, period images, testimonies, and audiovisual resources that allow for a better understanding of the origin and significance of this facility.
Oriol Margalef, journalist and director of the audiovisual capsule, will participate in the event. After the screening, Julio Villar, historical advisor for the production, and Josep M. Garreta, architect and creator of the building featured in this new installment, will speak.
The 'Port Stories' series is part of the heritage dissemination work carried out by the Port of Tarragona Archive and aims to bring the historical heritage linked to port activity closer to the entire citizenry. Through an informative and accessible format, the capsules contribute to preserving the collective memory of the Port and to publicizing episodes and testimonies that have marked its evolution over time.
In 2025, the first capsule was presented, dedicated to publicizing the attack suffered by the merchant ships Thorpeness and Stanwell during the Civil War in the Port of Tarragona, and can be viewed on the Port Archive's YouTube channel.
