The ChemMed chemical cluster held a new ordinary general assembly, where it demanded the need for the chemical hub of the Port of Tarragona to be declared a Critical Chemical Site by the European Union.
Likewise, ongoing projects have been monitored, and a review of the cluster's promotional actions planned for this year has also been carried out, with special emphasis on the evaluation of its participation in Expoquimia, the main fair in the sector held in Barcelona this week.
The sector meeting allowed addressing the strategic importance of Tarragona's industrial hub being recognized by the European Union as a Critical Chemical Site, a key qualification in the current European context. Thus, the need to strengthen competitiveness, industrial resilience, and European strategic sovereignty was highlighted. In this regard, the efforts and work being carried out by the AEQT as a member of the Critical Chemicals Alliance to achieve this declaration were presented.
Likewise, an update on the evolution of the different projects that the cluster is attracting has also been carried out. These are related to sustainable chemistry and are part of the sector's green transformation process with the aim of moving towards climate neutrality. In particular, these are business proposals related to the circular economy, recycling, and new energies and fuels.
Positioning and new opportunities
Within the framework of the assembly, a review of the promotional tasks that the cluster is carrying out to attract business opportunities and position itself as a future hub for the production and distribution of green and circular molecules was conducted. In this first half of the year, ChemMed has been present at prominent events such as the III National Green Hydrogen Congress (Huelva), StocExpo and Carbon Capture Europe Summit (Rotterdam), Bunkering & Sustainability Forum (Tenerife), Argus Green Marine Fuels Europe Conference (Antwerp) of Logistics.
For the second half of the year, ChemMed will again be present at the annual meeting of the EPCA – European Petrochemical Association (Vienna) and at the Argus Clean Ammonia Europe Conference (Rotterdam). Also, by early 2027, the X edition of Med Hub Day will be held, a benchmark event on petrochemical sector logistics, organized annually by Port Tarragona.
