NYK celebrated the christening and launching ceremony of its new cruise ship, the Amane, at Maehata Shipbuilding Co. shipyards, in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.
The event was attended by numerous executives, including Masamichi Katayama, founder and director of Wonderwall, who was the integrated designer of the vessel, and Shimpei Terada, president of Tysons & Company, who developed the onboard experience for passengers.
At the event, Takuji Banno, Senior Executive Officer of NYK, officially christened the vessel as Amane, a name that combines the characters for sea and sound, evoking the image of a serene journey accompanied by the relaxing sounds of the sea. It also reflects the shipping company's aspiration for both the vessel and the vision it represents to have a wide impact.
During the ceremony, Katayama performed the traditional rope-cutting, and the Amane was successfully launched. The unit is being built as the successor to the Lady Crystal, a restaurant boat currently operating in Tokyo Bay.
Following interior outfitting and related work, the delivery of the Amane is scheduled for March 2027, and it is expected to enter service in May 2027 for Tokyo Bay cruises based in the coastal district of Tennozu Island.
The vessel has an overall length of approximately 48 meters, a beam of about 9.5 meters, and a draft of 2.1 meters, and has 480 gross tons.
