Construction of the new cruise terminal at the Port of Klaipeda has gained momentum and is progressing rapidly, as work on the first docks, which began in 2025, has already been completed. With some work ahead of schedule, the outlines of the newly built docks are becoming increasingly visible.
"Just over half a year after the start of the works, the reconstruction of the first two docks has already been completed, and the remaining parts of the terminal are taking shape. Without a doubt, it is a space worth waiting for," said Algis Latakas, General Manager of the Port of Klaipeda.
All of this is part of the waterfront redevelopment project. The new cruise terminal is being built on the site of the former Soviet naval repair shipyard.
The new terminal will be able to accommodate more than one cruise ship at a time, as it will feature two docks, one 369 meters long and the other 222 meters long, as well as shore power supply and spacious, comfortable areas for buses and passengers.
In addition to modern cruise facilities, the project includes an outdoor amphitheater with views of the Curonian Lagoon, event spaces, leisure areas, pedestrian walkways, bike paths, and a marina for recreational boats and yachts.
The terminal will function both as port infrastructure for maritime tourism and as an open public waterfront space for residents and visitors. This project represents one of Lithuania's most significant port-city integration initiatives in recent times.
The project, with a budget of USD 55 million and designed to integrate naturally into the new downtown areas, is scheduled for completion in 2027.
