The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Singapore coordinated the rescue of 25 crew members from the Liberian-flagged container ship MSC Hermes III after receiving a distress alert.
The vessel was located within Singapore's Maritime Search and Rescue Region (MSRR), approximately 300 km east of Vietnam.
The MRCC issued an advisory requesting assistance from nearby vessels, and three responded to the call. The MSC Ruby ultimately rescued the 25 crew members who had abandoned the MSC Hermes III in a lifeboat.
The agency stated that all involved are safe, and no injuries have been reported.
The MSC Hermes III was sailing from Shanghai to Jakarta when it issued the distress signal, although the cause of the emergency that forced the evacuation of its occupants is not yet known.
The Singapore Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre is coordinating with its Vietnamese counterpart on arrangements for the rescued crew members to return safely to shore.
