The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on 17 September claimed to have struck the Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend as it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The attack reportedly caused a fire onboard, and the vessel was stopped by the IRGC.

The incident was reported by the Iranian state news agency IRNA. According to the reports, the vessel was hit caught fire, and came to a halt. The IRGC claimed that it attacked the vessel for its illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz, however, they have not disclose the location of the incident, condition of the crew and the cargo aboard the vessel.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on 17 September a security incident near the Strait of Hormuz, around 16 nautical miles off the coast of Khasab, Oman. It is currently unclear whether the UKMTO and Iranian reports refer to the same vessel.
Since late February, following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, Tehran has maintained an effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Trend is a oil products tanker built in 2008. The vessel has a length of 118 metres, a beam of 17.6 metres, and a gross tonnage of 5,036.
